The success story of the BLUE POWER atomizers started with the development of a powder atomizer for small batches. It was in 2012, as BLUE POWER Casting Systems and its sister company Indutherm, up to there developer and provider of casting systems, decided to venture a step into the upcoming world of metal powder technologies. At that time metal powder production and additive manufacturing technologies were still in their early stages compared with today's level. The powder application sector asked for economical small batch powder production solutions for R&D, Rapid Prototyping or precious metal applications that were not available at the market. With the University of Bremen a competent partner could be found for the development of such a powder production solution in a collaborative R&D project. The first prototype finished in summer 2013 met the targets as high powder quality, easy cleaning, avoiding of metal loss and cross-contamination. The serial production started with the model AU 1000, offering a crucible capacity of 1,500 ccm.
According to the increased demand to highly specialized metal powders BLUE POWER extended their atomizer series with models offering larger volumes. The recently launched AU 12000 (12,000 ccm crucible volume) is a good compromise of economy and capacity. Its ideal e.g. for companies who want to up-cycle production remains as casting or forging residues into high quality powders or for those who need high quality powders with high purity, sphericity and reproducible size distribution for their own AM or MiM processes. A 25,000 ccm version of the atomizer is announced for 2020.
As all other AU series machines the AU 12000 works with different easy-to-change nozzle systems (free fall and close coupled atomization nozzles) to obtain specific metal powder characteristics and particle sizes. Fine-tuning of the particle size distribution is obtained by variation of gas pressure and gas temperature. The easy-to-clean-concept allows a frequent change of alloys without efforts: all parts are easy to clean, the risk of metal loss and cross-contamination is reduced to minimum. The BLUE POWER atomizers are generally suitable for gas atomization of a wide spectrum of alloys; such as for example those based on Cu, Au, Ag or Sn (standard versions) as well as Fe, Co, Ni, Pd and Pt (high temperature versions). They offer the possibility of oxidation-free processing in the closed-chamber machine by means of de-gassing, vacuum and protective gas features. For reactive metals as Al and its alloys a prototype plant also developed in a R&D project with the University of Bremen is running successfully in test mode.
For easy and reliable separation of the produced powders into fine and coarse fractions BLUE POWER offers the Air Classifier AC series.
At their GIFA booth (hall 10 G64) BLUE POWER will not only inform about their powder production solutions, they will also show a selection of their wide spectrum of vacuum pressure casting machines, vacuum continuous casting machines, melting furnaces and granulation units.
