Calderys developed new concept of refractory

( Source: Calderys )

[24/05/2013]

Traditional Calcium Aluminate Cement (CAC) bonded castables require significant time to dry out and allow water to evaporate. This is due to the low gas permeability (i.e. capability of vapour to escape through the structure) of CAC castables and the high amount of water trapped in hydrates crystals, which can escape at elevated temperatures only. Would the dry-out schedule not be respected, then vapour pressure inside the lining would rise up to values exceeding the strength of the castable and the lining would explode.

Casting and sand cooling

( Source: ConviTec )

[24/05/2013]

ConviTec supplies vibratory equipment mainly for Foundries and the steel industry. A wide range of machines and systems are designed for different applications. Especially for the cooling of castings and sand improved systems have been developed. For the cooling of used sand ConviTec deliver a fluidised bed system with good mixing and homogenisation, water addition over a large surface, regular water distribution, no wearing parts, and low power consumption. More advantages are for example 7,5kW for 60 t/h and equal sand moisture at the end effected by the new control system with moisture sensor.

Casting Simulation Suite 2010 from ESI

( Source: ESI Group )

[24/05/2013]

ESIs Casting Simulation Suite (including ProCAST & QuikCAST) allows predictive evaluations of the entire casting process including: filling and solidification defects; mechanical properties; and, complex part distortion. It enables rapid visualization of the results of casting and thus allows correct decision-making at an early stage in the design of a manufacturing process. The new 2010 version delivers numerous enhancements; offering several improved product functionalities as well as new features that meet todays foundry needs. ESIs Casting Simulation Suite 2010 allows an engineer to build step-by-step the necessary functionalities to span the entire foundry process from die design through to the components performance during its productive life.

Cold box exhaust air cleaning

( Source: B.G.T. GmbH )

[24/05/2013]

BGT GmbH exhibits a high-efficiency scrubber for 20.000 m³ exhaust air/h. The efficiency of separation for amines of the plant is higher than 99 %. The shown, fully automatic control with adjustable volume flow leads to an absolutely reliable, extremely low-maintenance and low-energy operation of the plant. The plant, fabricated with an UV-resistant material, distinguishes itself by an excellent chemical resistance and operating safety. All requirements to purification efficiency and operating safety are carried out. Worldwide more than 450 comparable exhaust air cleaning plants are running in foundries.

Easy handling of heavy moulding boxes

( Source: VETTER Krantechnik GmbH )

[24/05/2013]

The company Fronberg Guss was able to considerably simplify ist handling of heavy moulding boxes. Heavy moulding boxes with a deadweight of up to 50 tonnes - it's hardly imaginable that such monsters can be rotated once around their own axis while hanging freely. Special endless chains are used for the rotating process using the Rotomax load turning device. These are equipped with a driving dog which engages with a trunnion on the moulding boxes, and thereby prevents the chains from slipping through.

Energy Efficient Basketless Heat Treating System

( Source: Can-Eng Furnaces International Limited )

[24/05/2013]

Can-Eng Furnaces is at the forefront of the aluminum heat treating technology and will be showcasing its Basketless Heat Treating System (BHTS) for the efficient treatment of aluminum intensive automotive engine blocks, cylinder heads, structures and suspension components at GIFA 2011. The BHTS incorporates a unique material handling system that provides for single piece product flow. As result, this lean manufacturing concept transfers castings through the system without the use of baskets, carriers or trays. Can-Eng Furnaces Basketless Heat Treating System uses no baskets, trays or carriers and reduces energy consumption up to 40 %.
